When he discovers that designer handbags are so desirable that some women will pay 100 pounds a month just to rent one, he's determined to have their heads examined to find out why.

Alex Riley is on the trail of the global food and drink giants. What's so special about them? How have they penetrated our brains so we recognise them like members of our own families? Alex travels the globe to find where they've come from and how they make us keep on buying them.

爸爸辛苦养家，妈妈得了癌症，女儿想回美国，一家人似乎永远处在“一切人对一切人”的“战争状态”中。在一个四口之家，生动地上演了一场有关代际冲突与文化隔阂的家庭战争。最为悲哀的是，其实互相都是有爱的，只不过以争吵的形式不适当地表达了出来。
这话也可以在接下来的日子里，不断地用来问我自己。
单调却真诚，倾注了沉甸甸的生命体验，刻骨铭心。每一次争吵后混杂着温情和痛苦的余震，对身边人乃至对自己的恨意的反复回荡，当这些真实可感甚至能唤醒记忆的情感的时候，再多技巧都显得多余。
动情足够，演技出彩带来的余味是有的，但围绕家庭情感、身份认同、爱与成长这些核心命题，在层次上仍欠缺一些厚重。这就导致在很多台词文本和表演节奏中设计感略突兀，印象深的像爸爸坐在楼梯上哭，妈妈受洗后不能烧纸钱妹妹的发问，还有妹妹那句you know mammy loves you, right。这就显示出为什么杨德昌的台词能成为经典，因为他不光有设计，还有盛放设计的想象空间，感觉阮凤仪似乎是想学，但没学来。
最后一场打斗戏份和马棚独角戏太出色了，积聚了全片的负能量和伤感如潮水涌向观众。每个角色都有无以名状的怨气，无处释放，发人深省

說出彩點好像也說不太出來，但的確是特別普遍到非常容易引起共情
知道它欠缺在哪里可是……丝丝入扣，针针入肉。林嘉欣太好了。
在20年前的台湾，看得出普通的中产家庭想要维持一个光鲜的美国梦是有点吃力的。明明以为自己再够一够手就能达到了，却被一场疾病打回原形，妈妈内心的不甘是比女儿更强烈的吧。
3.6/林嘉欣可是我童年的女神，一部十分台湾的台湾电影，一切看起来都平平无奇，但是情绪很饱满也很丰富。
女儿看着就跟韩片《爱.回家》里的小孩一样叫人厌烦。说明一个道理，在家庭关系里，幼子代表的既是索取的角色，而厌恶被索取是人类的共性，这点不会比动物更理性。或者承担家庭时就已经签下了这份承诺，一方将会只知道索取，另一方始终无怨无悔。我们把这份承诺称之为“爱”。
白马成为自由的象征。非典加重了各人关系的紧张还激化了矛盾冲突。
