The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 这部剧作被改编的次数也太多了，科恩+华盛顿也没带来什么惊喜，甚至于过度舞台化的表现方式都显得有些俗套。
天真以为是现代版改编但不是…..再一次看莎剧文言文麦克白😨。各种布景建筑光影营造的氛围感一流，但除了女巫和Ross，其他演员都肉眼可见地努力又违和。在一群莎剧腔里冒出一个美式口语腔小朋友我笑出来了…

导演应该想清楚的是：他要做一部戏剧式的电影，还是电影式的戏剧。在某些时刻我觉得感受还不如看NT Live的录像舒适，本该交融的两种艺术形式让人觉得在两种艺术体验中横跳，对语言的欣赏被影像夺走了注意力，对影像的赞美被拗口的台词干扰。
将戏剧搬到银幕上，物理上收缩了时空，效果上将时空拉得更开。黑白剧照拍出来很好看，但是在一出悲剧中显得过于刻意，包括影片对于光线的运用。技术上很出色，但没能掩盖被弱化的内核。
观看名著障碍症再次发作。。。只能当美术课了。。。
我已经忘了多久没看中文字幕了，没办法，承认不看字幕听不懂这夹杂古英语的台词，尤其还是戏剧那种大段大段的独白。well有点神棍，那种宿命预言的，还是蛮感触的，其实还是Macbeth有点怂，我感觉，一边贪恋权力一方面还要装作君子，bluh，不过没办法，毕竟是tragedy。另外就是这个黑白片了，not a fan，so， 这个就有点那种刻意retro吧，不过我还是喜欢彩色，不过某些画面，确实是刻意的，能感觉到，应该会摄影的人或是懂的人能欣赏到吧。另外就是，Macbeth刚开始没咋觉得，后面开始莎人时，我就串戏了，DW还是那个DW。口音方面，听着很舒服，毕竟是美音，不用装奇怪的英音lol。演员嘛黑白电影真的分不出来，除非看头发，不然我真的分不出来。but whatever
为了停车迟到了5分钟，进去已经是三个女巫的部分了，然后才出片名。自己觉得片名都没错过应该能看懂——结果一句都听不懂。忍不住在包里看手机搜豆瓣评论，才发现纽约的朋友们也集体表示台词听不懂。那我就放心了。最后冲过去跟Carter Burwell表达了半天自己对暮光配乐的喜欢，没等他说啥我就走了哈哈哈哈哈。。#三十多了，无厘头一如既往。#
感觉与这个时代格格不入，像属于旧时代的作品。摄影布光这些太强了。
构图和调色都很棒，戳爷也太好看了，多多演电影吧！
MV视感，看着很舒服，音乐也很舒服，印度小哥略显无聊。

戏剧总有一种魔力，会把电影拽入平庸的深渊。科恩找到了表现主义这把钥匙，打开了那扇联通两个世界的门。我看完震撼得只想问：“科恩，兄dei！考虑把莎士比亚都拍一遍嘛？”
“等待不是放弃，并且要挥起fuck hand！”我们都会有wonderful life！
不知奥胖看完作何感想，《奥赛罗》+《黑豹》
丹泽尔华盛顿居然极其适合麦克白这个角色，这一版很适合当代人的观赏习惯和审美倾向，但居然是一点私货都没神魂合一的莎士比亚。
真就只有男主美颜这个看点，剧情各种同题材的影子
还不错。青春片就是要谈恋爱，戳演起这个角色比甜茶顺手的多（怀疑本人就是在tla）以及可以想象到霉霉看到电影气到半夜三点爬起来写歌骂戳的场面了（不
全片表演最好的还是（是不是也只有）Frances McDormand。在拍摄方面最好的几处构思都是和女巫、幽灵、“移动的树林”等有关的，灵逸逼人。打不到四星的原因是灵魂人物没撑起来。
