The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 从父亲深谋远虑的角度讲述大小威的故事，这个传记片走的路子很不寻常，非裔姐妹在网坛写下的浑厚一笔为她们的成长经历赋予了强烈的励志，她们的成功与父亲对于计划的固执密不可分，这位父亲真正伟大之处，在于选了网球并坚持这一选择。
想到了张桂梅……可能是生活好了大家突然开始嘲讽鸡娃，可对太多娃来说鸡才是通往好的生活之路，美中不足是家长付出太多，完全没有自己的人生了，咋不帮自己也规划一下
对好莱坞这种毫无类型活力的新闻剪报传记片已PTSD。导演是谁？演员的傀儡，剧本的复读机，标题党雄文的排版大师。只希望《独自上场》能够重见天日，等着看陈可辛碾压式完胜。
康普顿部分是贫穷街区矛盾，佛罗里达则是培养平衡，理查德这般赌博不知有多少来自于自信，影片明显只展示了积极一面。所谓的计划，希望是除了苦难和相信，还有别的东西。后半段鸡血太多，比赛都没意思了

更偏反映黑人日常生活遭遇 自己努力还得有人这么努力的支持你。不说他对不对 只说这种家庭的付出跟做到和信念就比不了。
人真的无完人。一面是认真负责一心付出教会尊严与自信的一切为了小孩的伟大爸爸，一面是四处留情没有责任心自大又自卑满嘴跑火车的drama queen。比想象中有趣，真正伟大的是姐妹吧，两个人的成功却专注在父权的角度，有点遗憾
不写大小威姐妹去写她们的爸也没什么，不就是想跳出体育励志片的框框嘛，可是也不能把电影拍成这样松散凌乱不知所云吧？这都也罢了，最大的问题是你无法认同这个父亲，也不明白这人如何就培养出两个天才冠军。全片你得到的印象就是：大小威的成功简直就是一帆风顺，原因就是她们有一个走火入魔、自以为是、跟所有人较劲虎爹。切！
我永远不会忘记我爸说的，这是我们一生为之奋斗的一刻，保持专注，不要畏惧。
我以为更多重心会放在一开始不被看好的妹妹身上，中规中矩吧，但并不是威尔史密斯最好的表演。
6/10。理查德的超我源于对父亲榜样的失望，他把维纳斯叫到身边，说道自己小时候去白人商店被群殴却指望不上父亲的经验，强调了身为父亲以保护女儿为宗旨，从空间的区域来说，黑人街区的枪战和网球场上流氓骚扰的危险，不难看出理查德的梦想基于走出穷困混乱的环境这一现实原则；在维纳斯的才华逐渐吸引来投资和教练后，理查德禁锢的本我越来越多呈现：他以放屁回应品牌商的合作建议，谈话中因为有色人种、养育条件等不利因素的自卑感愤而离席，喜欢上电视夸夸其谈。但理查德这个角色的自我整合在于，他首先反省了本我的满足，为教训拿着奖杯自我吹嘘的女儿们，打算开车甩掉女儿让她们步行回家，接着调节了超我的过度控制，迎战头号网球选手的维纳斯后半程状态崩溃，理查德只是安慰她别太注重父母的期待，赛后满街的欢呼人群，检验了主角整合自我的成功。
拍得其實不錯，但逃避描繪父親這個角色真正的缺點令到電影呈現出了尷尬的狀態，成功學和父權色彩令體育和種族的動人豪情瞬間褪色不少。
美国虎爸混搭美国摔跤手的父亲，不过理查德确实很牛，而且威尔·史密斯也很牛，至少这部戏里面，他演的比麦克白悲剧里面的丹泽尔·华盛顿好多了#2022奥斯卡阅片倒计时#

两个女儿成功了，这个爸爸就是国王；没有成功，那他就是个自大狂、偏执狂。个人觉得，里面妈妈这个角色也蛮酷的哎，很帅气
典型的成王败寇与美式鸡汤。你是大威小威的爹，你的方法就是正确的，你是黑人影帝威尔史密斯，你扇人耳光也就理所当然了。越来越趋向男性化的两姐妹，让女子网球变得毫无美感。记得当年莎拉波娃的海报贴满了大街小巷，广告接到手软，大威小威两姐妹的比赛我是看到就转台的。
