The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 不能否认这个故事是好的。但是拍摄手法，一惊一乍。明白这是印度电影的风格，MV集锦。背景音乐带动节奏氛围是可以的但是too much.

这是一个底层劳动者对真诚品质的坚持，是一个妻子对丈夫爱的坚持，是一个律师对正义公正的坚持。
这句响亮的口号喊出了印度历史上第五种姓的变革。
用力过度的水准可以和韩国掰一掰手腕，煽情太过是减分向，人物都是工具性的，最大的力量是根据真实事件改编，不过也许真实比电影里的煽情更令人窒息。
这部里描写的警察看起来智商低，我想之所以他们做事不严谨，应该是认为没人会为犯人出头，被发现的可能性很小，有恃无恐吧。
但真实事件改编真的非常有力量
可惜我们无法在中国电影里看到个人对体制的诘问。
我上次有这种“你们这个司法体系要维护法律尊严简直小菜一碟嘛”的感觉还是看「华盛顿邮报」哎！灯塔国也就勉强算了，但是我现在竟然在羡慕印度？？？
“我们被打只是疼痛一时，认罪却要成为一辈子的小偷。”歧视深藏在每个人心中，当这些人有了权力，暴力只是如期而至。
印度这样也真的是无力吐槽，人心有善恶，有的冷淡却无诡诈，有的亲密却多两面，冷静下来，不忘初心，你才能找回自己的路。
有一种作品，看完之后让人久久不能平静，只是呆呆的愣在那里；一种伟大的力量注入灵魂。从各种方面来讲，观者被作品全面带领，进入一个更高的世界。这是一部伟大的作品，电影无比精彩，我看过的所有电影中最好的那样一种。不止电影，它所包含的内容太多了，没有一处是无用的。阶级；暴力；社会平等；马克思列宁；法律；良心；执法；种族……太多了。
虽然有一些镜头浮夸和人物扁平的弊病，自然比不上同类型的辩护人，但对种姓歧视赤裸裸的暴露和揭示足以令人胆寒。人竟能对同等的他人如此轻贱和蔑视，40年代如此，90年代如此，甚至如今也仍如此。人间和地狱相邻，不平等是世界永远的议题。希望我们也有如此电影，有胆量正视，有勇气斗争。斗争万岁。
看起来印度的恶人还是不够“恶”，光靠毒打就逼迫明知不是罪犯的人认罪，是很有难度的。要靠威胁伤害他心爱的人，靠让他看到未来是黑暗无助，从精神上先让他降伏。我不是恶人，但悠久的历史和权谋的智慧，也会带来比起我们能察觉到更为黑暗的一面。
